The AbbVie Immunology Scholarship provides financial support for exceptional students living with inflammatory diseases like: ankylosing spondylitis (AS), atopic dermatitis (AD), Crohn’s disease (CD), hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), psoriasis (Ps), psoriatic arthritis (PsA), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), ulcerative colitis (UC), or uveitis (UV).

Submission guidelines are included in the application. By participating, applicants agree to the rules and the decisions of the judges and/or sponsors, which are binding and final on matters relating to this scholarship.

The AbbVie Immunology Scholarship is committed to supporting students living with an inflammatory disease who are seeking an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited university or college in the United States.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must be:

  • A US citizen or a legal and permanent resident of the US.
  • Diagnosed with AS, AD, CD, HS, JIA, Ps, PsA, RA, UC, or UV by a healthcare professional.
  • Planning to enroll in full-time undergraduate or graduate studies at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational technical school for the entire upcoming academic year.
  • Applicants must have completed high school or obtained a General Education Development (GED) certificate.

You are not eligible if:

  • You are a previous AbbVie scholarship recipient.
  • You are an employee of AbbVie or their immediate family member.
  • You are a healthcare provider or their immediate family member.
  • You are a patient contracted by AbbVie through Patient Health Perspectives.

If an applicant has been diagnosed with more than one inflammatory disease, the applicant should choose the most relevant inflammatory disease for this application.

Students may submit their application during the open application period, which can be found on this website.

Yes. The scholarship is available to anyone who is beginning or continuing postsecondary education within the current academic year. Eligibility and receipt of scholarship awards are contingent upon enrollment at an accredited US-based post-secondary educational institution for the applicable school year.

No. The scholarship is available to anyone who is beginning or continuing full-time postsecondary education within the applicable academic year only.

No. The scholarship funds can only be used at a US institution.

Those who do not receive a scholarship are invited to reapply in the following years. Previous recipients of any AbbVie Scholarship are not eligible to apply again.

If chosen as a semi-finalist, applicants will be required to have their healthcare provider verify their condition in writing by completing a Diagnosis Verification Form. The Diagnosis Verification Form will be provided to semi-finalists by Scholarship America®.

No, it is not necessary for applicants to have taken, currently take, or intend to take in the future any medicine or product marketed by AbbVie; this will not be a consideration in the recipient selection process.

No. Please do not include any specific brand and/or product names of medications (including generic names of medications) in your application. Do not include any physician/healthcare professional names or medical facility names (anywhere other than on the healthcare form requested for semi-finalists).

The essay should be entered directly in the space provided online during the application. Please note you are limited to 2,000 characters.

Recipients pursuing an associate degree will receive a $5,000 scholarship. Those pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree/PhD will receive a $15,000 scholarship.

Notifications will be made via email using the contact information provided in the student's application. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as scholarship recipients.

Scholarship America® processes scholarship payments on behalf of AbbVie. Awards will be paid in one installment and be made payable to the educational institution for the student.

AbbVie Immunology Scholarship funds are awarded solely for use toward education-related expenses under applicable federal tax laws.
